Climate Change Impacts on Remote Pacific Islands

To support proactive and adaptive planning needs for the three Pacific Marine National Monuments in U.S. waters, we conducted a basic vulnerability assessment where the sensitivity, exposure, and adaptive capacity of species and systems in response to climate change are examined. We conducted a climate change impact and vulnerability assessment for the Mariana Trench, Rose Atoll, and Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monuments. This research has built upon an existing global model of climate change impacts and we further elicited expert responses about the effects of climate change on deep sea environments, with particular focus on the Mariana Trench.
